working artist??? job opportunity

Well here is an Opportunity to do what you love and get paid...

Museum of Cultural Arts Houston (MOCAH)

MOCAH periodically seeks Muralist, Painters, Illustrators, Ceramicists, Writers, Poets, Photographers, Videographers, Environmental Artists, Graphic Artists & other creative persons to produce public art projects and to instruct art classes to inner-city youth. Experience working with youth K-12 is a must.

ArtworkZ projects involve mentoring relationships between professional artists and students to produce community based public art. We develop and create innovative public art projects that allow artists, communities, and businesses to collaborate successfully. By joining students with professional artists we are able to reinforce the impact and value that their work has on the community while providing the youth with hands on community development experience.

MOCAH seeks muralists and painters to work with schools, community centers and other businesses to create community-based murals. Our typical mural schedule includes approximately 4 weeks of design and an additional 6 - 8 weeks for production. The artists usually work 2 - 4 hours per workshop, 2 - 4 days per week . These murals range from exterior works that must be painted on site to works that are produced in our studios on canvas or other surface materials. Artists must have their own transportation and flexible schedules. MOCAH is also seeking videographers and photographers to document current and future public art projects.

To apply you may send your resume with work samples by clicking here . You could also send it to info@mocah.org , or mail to:

mattia biagi | black tar

Is this a ode to the oil spill in the gulf coast? Nah... but I did feel it was an appropriate time to post this artist...

Sara Taglialagamba

BIAGI = art as symbolic form

Biagi's art is be defined as symbolic because it complies fully with the fundamental canons of this artistic movement. First, the Ideal, the expression of ideas by means of forms; then follow the synthesis, the reduction in the essence of the symbols.

Subjectivity, because the object becomes a sign of the idea conceived by subject; Emotion 'to the capacity of the works put out to express emotions, and finally the decorative, understood in its broadest sense recovery, rebuilding, for example, the ancient decorative painting.

SPREAD THE WORD AND BUY SOME WORK!!!!

harrisburg & eastwood I

I promised you I would post pictures of graffiti in Houston and the artistic value of them. Well there is this place on Harrisburg and Eastwood that has some of MY favorite graffiti. It is on the eastside of town and by my job.

Well what makes it so great? Well the people who do the graffiti here change it on a monthly basis for the neighborhood. It takes them about 2-3 days to complete, and the whole neighborhood comes out to watch them express themselves artistically. It is amazing because the quality of the work is wonderful and it brings a neighborhood together.

Who would think that an illegal activity would bring people together? I love it!!!

So what I am going to do is post up pics every time they change it. ENJOY

simply amazing!

Photographer: Andreas Smetana

Agency: Razor Junior

This image was based on an illustration. Features, such as eyes, eyebrows, lips and cheekbones, were etched with individual body shapes. In the studio photographer Andreas Smetana recreated the illustration in parts by shooting groups of naked talent as separate pieces of the puzzle.

cats at miller outdoor theatre

Based on the universally popular poetry of T.S. Eliot, CATS tells the story, in song and dance, of the annual gathering of Jellicle cats at which time one special cat is selected to ascend to the Heaviside layer. A true musical theatre phenomenon, CATS opened at London's New London Theatre on May 11, 1981 and ran for a record-setting 21 years. CATS's London success was nearly matched on Broadway where it ran at the Wintergarden Theatre for just over 18 years. HITS Theatre will be presenting CATS with an all-youth cast, ranging from 8 to 19 years old, bringing all the magic of this incredible show to Miller Outdoor Theatre.

Presented by HITS Theatre

Time: 8:00pm - 10:30pm
Location: Miller Outdoor Theatre
Street: 100 Concert Drive
City/Town: Houston, TX

the reverse graffiti project

Instead of spray painting streets walls, there are artists who clean dirt off of them as a new form of graffiti. In the photo above, you can see Brazilian artist Alexandre Orion unsoiling parts of a transport tunnel to draw skulls on it.

SOOOO COOL!

child's play

Dave Devries started the Monster Engine project with one single question: What would a child’s drawing look like if it were painted realistically?

Well check it out below:

drag

When Jason Horowitz uses extreme close-up techniques for his large-scale photos of drag queens, the heavy make-up and intense facial expressions, often cropped, make for work that borders on the abstract.

The high gloss that is sometimes interpreted as glamour is like paint on a canvas, but the backdrop is human skin and experience, so the effects of the narrative are much more in-your-face. The drama is evident for all to see. What is real, what is not, and what does it matter?
